I swear, I didn't know where to start...
The story of a copywriter who tried to create a normal website for Osteria Zio Gigi (and failed miserably).
Usually, when I get paid to write a website, I sit down at my desk and start using elegant words, third-person sentences, and marketing phrases like "A unique culinary experience in the heart of..." There, forget all that. This is the first time I've found myself writing a website using the first person, but with Uncle Gigi, there was no other choice.
I couldn't create a conventional, cold, "institutional" website.
It would have been an insult to its history. When I came here to gather information, I realized that the osteria looks exactly as one would expect from an old Tuscan trattoria: wooden tables, historic photos on the walls, intimate spaces, and a delightfully chaotic and warm atmosphere. But the real strength—and I realized it immediately—is the warm and deeply familiar welcome.
Customer reviews said so, but experiencing it is something else entirely: here, Uncle Gigi's friendliness, irony, and authenticity pepper the days with jokes and folk songs sung around the tables. (I recommend reading the page dedicated to Uncle Gigi.) This is the ideal place for those who love conviviality and want to feel at home.
And then, let's talk about substance
There's no messing around here. Whether you're looking for tradition or a more casual evening, there's a dual spirit here:
The most genuine Tuscan tradition
With hearty, flavorful dishes free from pretentious plating. Ribollita, peposo, tripe, and the authentic Fiorentina steak.
The Pizzeria
Because Uncle knows that in the evening, sometimes you just want a good hot pizza, cooked as tradition dictates, without "exotic" ingredients but with plenty of substance.
The atmosphere is rustic, often crowded, and lively: my golden advice (as a friend) is to always make a reservation, so you don't miss out on the opportunity to experience this traditional gem. If you're looking for the warmth of a Florentine home, good old-fashioned cuisine, and lots of laughter, Osteria Zio Gigi will become your second home in Florence. I've done my job.
Now it's your turn: Seeing is believing!
But the thing that literally left me speechless…
But the thing that really left me speechless—and I say this as someone who lives and spends money in Florence—was the prices. Guys, it really feels like we're stuck in the '90s, practically behind the Duomo!
Check out the menu pages, trust me.
Explore every corner of Osteria Zio Gigi: the story behind the absurd prices, the kitchen and pizzeria menus, and the character who holds it all together.
The Confession
The truth about Florence's most absurd prices. €1 cover charge. It's not a typo.
When I asked my uncle for the PDF of the menu…
He laughed. And said, "What PDF? Here we go to the market every morning!"
At least for the pizzeria…
Traditional pizza: fragrant base, classic ingredients, baked hot and steaming every evening.
