The Menu
Or how to eat like a king with 90s atmosphere and prices
When I asked Uncle Gigi for the PDF file of the menu to upload to the website, he looked at me, laughed, and said, "What PDF? We go to the market every morning here!"
So let me tell you how it works here, because it's the antithesis of everything you find in downtown Florence today. There's no fixed, printed lunch menu. The menu is strictly express and changes every single day. Uncle (or whoever he is) wanders the market stalls and local producers in the morning: whatever fresh, seasonal produce the day offers goes straight into the pot. It doesn't get more pure-blooded Calabrian (oh yes, because Uncle is from Saudi Calabria) than this.
It's the cuisine of the past, the one that focuses on the substance and absolute freshness of the raw materials.
And the prices? And the cover charge?
Ahhhhh...so you haven't read the CONFESSION yet! In the meantime, here's the dinner menu. You can't improvise all day, the chef might be in trouble!
But trust me: cover charge is €1 for lunch and €2 for dinner, practically behind the Duomo. There's only one rule: a full stomach means a safe wallet.
