Osteria in Florence near the Duomo
Because you come here with the desire to eat, not with the fear of spending.
Uncle's Confession on Prices
But the thing that left me absolutely speechless—and I say this as someone who lives and spends money in Florence—was the prices. Guys, it really feels like we're stuck in the '90s. While I was writing these texts, Uncle confided something to me that has stuck with me:
"I like people to come in here with the desire to eat, not with the fear of spending."
Nowadays, just steps from the Duomo, this philosophy is rare. Uncle Gigi likes to stay popular. He wants workers, college students, families, and tourists to be able to sit at the same table, eat until they're bursting, and leave with a smile, without the dread of the bill.
The Cover Anomaly
(A museum piece in Florence)
And if you don't believe me, I'll leave you with an objective fact that hasn't existed in Florence for many, many years (especially in the historic center):
AT LUNCH
Cover charge €1.00
DINNER
Cover charge €2.00
Yes, you read that right. One euro. That's practically less than a coffee for a table overlooking the Duomo, the joy of Il Zio, traditional Tuscan dishes, and the assurance of incredible quality. Whether it's a quick express lunch, a steak and ribollita dinner, or one of our traditional pizzas freshly baked that evening, here the rule is the same: a full belly, a safe wallet, and glasses in the air.
